If a certain page on a website doesn't load for some reason or in case a link is not functioning, the visitor will see an error page with some generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the Internet site, which may make the visitor leave your website. A possible solution in this case is a feature offered by some web hosting service providers - the option to set up your own custom error pages which shall have identical style and design as your Internet site and that may contain any images or text that you'd like depending on the particular error. There are 4 common errors which may occur and they involve the following so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your browser sends a bad request to the hosting server and it cannot be processed; 401, in case you are supposed to log in to see a webpage, but you haven't done this yet; 403, if you don't have a permission to view a certain page; and 404, when a link which you've clicked leads to a file which doesn't exist. In each of these scenarios, website visitors shall be able to see your custom made content rather than a generic error page.
Custom Error Pages in Website Hosting
You can set up personalized error pages for all of your Internet sites with ease when you use any of our website hosting
. This can easily be done from the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, offered with all accounts and when you go there, you'll be able to set your custom pages independently for any domain or subdomain. You should upload the files to your account before you start and enter the links to them through the process. This feature could be de-activated at any time and the options you'll be able to pick from are a standard page from our system or a default Apache web server page. Customized error pages can be set with an .htaccess file too. The file should be put into the domain or subdomain folder and it must contain some system code and links to the pages. If you're not tech-savvy, you may copy the entire content required for the file from our Help section.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers
All of the semi-dedicated servers
that we offer support personalized error pages and it will not take more than a couple of mouse clicks inside your Hepsia web hosting Control Panel to use this functionality. The option is included in the Hosted Domains section of your CP in which you will have to enter the links to the custom-made files through basic drop-down menus and a user-friendly interface. Keep in mind, you have to upload them in your account before that. In case you don't want to use this function at some point, you will be able to deactivate it just as fast and choose an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be viewable whenever your visitors encounter an error. If you'd prefer, you could also use an .htaccess file to allow the custom made error pages. The file should contain a particular line of code plus a link for every error type and you may find an example of the whole content for all four error types in our Help section.
